Bird Watching

Book This Activity

Bird lovers, bring your binoculars. The forest bordering Philo is globally known for Lutoboka Point, one of the more than 30 Important Bird Areas (IBAs) in Uganda. Many species live in and around our gardens all year round, and migratory birds pass through at certain times of the year.

You don’t even need to leave the property to start: guests often tell us the birds woke them before any alarm could. For a proper outing, head out at dawn with one of our guides, who identify many birds by their call before they come into view.

Birds you may see

  • Hornbills
  • Kingfishers
  • African grey parrots
  • Forest and garden species all year, plus seasonal migrants

Tips

  • Start early: the first two hours after sunrise are the most active.
  • Wear muted colours and bring your own binoculars and camera if you have them.
  • Pair it with a guided forest walk.
